20 Cambridge athletes, 10 men and 10 women, traveled to Sequoyah High School in Canton, GA to compete in the Sequoyah High School Home Meet #4 on Thursday, March 21. Cambridge competed alongside North Cobb Christian, Pickens County, Sequoyah, and South Forsyth High Schools in this five-school match up. The Cambridge Men's Track & Field team finished fourth out of five schools as did the Lady Bears Track & Field Team for an overall school finish of 4th.
Despite a less than stellar team ranking, this meet saw several Cambridge athletes finish amongst the top three in their events. Sophomore
Ali LoPiccolo brought home two first place finishes in Girls 300 Hurdles (51.62) and Girls High Jump (5-02.00).
Lauren Stewart brought home another number one ranking in the Girls Long Jump (14-09.00). Teammate
Olivia Sieverts finished fourth in the same event with a 13-00.00, securing another two points for Cambridge. For the Men's team, Senior
Hawk Hammer took first in the Boys Pole Vault (11-06.00), and
Bjorn Leicher brought home 6 points for his first place finish in the Boys 1600 Meter Run (4:54.12).
Additional Top 3 finishes were achieved by
Jahvona Pretty who took third place in both the Girls 400 Meter Dash (1:07.96) and the Girls Triple Jump (27-10.00). Pretty also teamed forces with LoPiccolo,
Angela Ho, and
Lily Niebur coming in third in the Girls 4x400 Relay (51.62). Lauren Stewart rounded out the leader board with her second place finish in the Girls 100 Meter Dash (12.90). A huge round of applause should go out to these first, second, and third place finishers who are making a name for themselves amongst their regional peers!
Several Cambridge athletes narrowly missed the third place spot but still managed to earn points for their team. Olivia Sieverts finished fourth in the Girls Long Jump (13-00.00) and fifth in the Girls 200 Meter Dash (27.20), personally securing 3 points for the Lady Bears. Elijah Abley admirably finished fifth in the Boys 110 Meter Hurdles (23.51) and then immediately competed in the Boys 300 Meter Hurdles finishing 7th. Dashun Soto brought home 2 points for this fourth place finish in the Boys Long Jump (17-01.50). The Cambridge HS 'A' Team consisting of Soto, Rayvon Moss, JD White, and Jalen Swarns brought home 2 points for their fourth place finish in the Boys 4x100 Meter Relay (47.10).
On the field
, Kaylee Warfield (6-06.00) and
Bailey Edmiston (49-00.50) finished 7
th and 8
th in the Girls Pole Vault and Girls Discus Throw, respectively.
Jesse Ortega (38-07.00) and
Tyren Cabellos (99-04.50) finished 6
th and 7
th in the Boys Shot Put and Boys Discus Throw, respectively.
