Bears Track Team Competes at Allatoona “Bucaneer Relays” Meet

The Cambridge Track and Field team traveled to Allatoona High School on Saturday as one of seven teams competing in the Bucaneer Relays track meet.  

On the field, Sophomore Ali LoPiccolo delivered Cambridge's single event win by clearing 5 feet in the Girls High Jump, and Freshman Madison Ulman delivered points to the Cambridge team with her successful jumps. Olivia Sieverts and Lauren Stewart both had strong performances in the Girls Long Jump, boosting Cambridge's team points total. Bailey Edmiston put Cambridge on the board with a top 10 Discus Throw.

For the Cambridge boys, Senior Hawk Hammer earned a third place finish in the Boys Pole Vault with a 12-foot vault, while teammate Jesse Ortega placed fourth in the Boys Shot Put with a throw of 37 feet and 3.5 inches. Austin Thistleton nailed a top 10 finish in the Boys Discus Throw. 

On the track, Ali LoPiccolo finished in third place in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles, while teammate Kaylee Warfield contributed points to Cambridge's team score with a top 10 finish.  Lacey Wolter crossed the finish line in 6th place for the Lady Bears in the 100M Dash, earning points for the team. Caroline Willis brought home a 4th place finish in the 1600 Meter Run, only five-hundredths of a second off the winning time. In the Girls Distance Medley, two Cambridge Lady Bears teams delivered strong finishes, with the team of Jahvona Pretty, Caroline Willis, Lily Niebur and Meagan Thistleton bringing home a third place finish.  Cambridge's Lady Bears had outstanding performances in the Relay events with several Bear teams competing in the 100M, 200M and 400M events:  top performances include a 5th place finish in the 4x100 Meter Relay by Cambridge Team A (Lauren Stewart, Olivia Sieverts, Caroline Gloster and Lacey Wolter) and a great effort by Team B (Rachel Edwards, Amanda Smoltz, Alyssa Cleveland and Jahvona Pretty);  a 5th place finish in the 4x200 Meter Relay by Team A (Madison Ulman, Rachel Edwards, Amanda Smoltz and Lajuane Ford); and a 7th place finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay  by Team A (Jahvona Pretty, Angela Ho, Emily Elsey, and Ali LoPiccolo) with a great effort by Team B (Andrea Flores, Kaylee Warfield, Corrine Sanders and Casey Wofford).

In a crowded field, freshman Bjorn Leicher gave the Bears one of their top finishes of the meet with a 2nd place medal in the Boys 1600 Meter Run. Dashun Soto crossed the finish line in 5th place in the Boys' 100 Meter Dash, while Elijah Abley contributed points to the Cambridge team with a top 10 finish in the 110 Meter Hurdles.
The Cambridge Bears earned team points with top 10 finishes in the Boys Relay events:  Hawk Hammer, Christopher Harbin, JD White and Dashun Soto (4x100 – 7th place); Hawk Hammer, Rayvon Moss, JD White and Dashun Soto (4x200- 8th place);  Benjamin Jones, Hawk Hammer, Rayvon Moss,  and Anthony Franklin (4x400 – 10th place); and in the 4x800 Meter Relay, Anthony Franklin, Elijah Abley, Austin Thistleton and Bjorn Leicher wrapped up an 8th place finish. In the Boys Distance Medley, Benjamin Jones, Austin Thistleton, Rayvon Moss and Bjorn Leicher finished 7th.
