Bears Varsity Boys Lacrosse Defeat Creekview

Bears Varsity Boys Lacrosse Defeat Creekview

The Cambridge Bears men's varsity lacrosse team won at home Tuesday night March 19th against the Grizzlies from Creekview High School.  The Bears upped their record to 5-2 with the 14-6 win.

The teams were evenly matched in the first quarter and the game was scoreless until the Grizzlies had a man up goal with 3 minutes and change left.  The Bears offense responded immediately, with a goal by Carson Smith assisted by Lauren DeLaPerriere less than a minute later, and then a shot by Brendan Fahey from Jake Leddy with just 15 seconds left in the first.

Creekview had a good shot early in the 2nd quarter, but the shooter was in the crease for no goal.  Creekview did connect a minute later off a fast break resulting from a Cambridge turn over.  Both offenses turned up the heat, with CHS's Alex Sichynsky scoring with 9 minutes left quickly followed by a Creekview net.  A winning face off by Ryan Callahan and picked up by Nick Herrick set up Jake Leddy's goal in front of the crease.  Cambridge goalie Croix Martini put in a rock solid performance in the cage with 5 saves in the first half.  With under 2 minutes to play, a heads up play by Cambridge's Britt Spurka on defense set up a goal by Sam Burrafato (assisted by Sichynsky) for the Bear lead of 6-3 at the half.

The Grizzlies came out stronger physically in the 3rd, but were unable to put the ball in the net.  Both teams saw more penalties as well – and Creekview took advantage of a Cambridge turnover with a score.  But Cambridge came out shooting, with DeLaPerriere connecting once and Sichynsky connecting twice for his first hat trick of the season.

In the 4th, the Grizzlies were not able to do much on offense against a strong Cambridge defense, led by Joshua Kania, Raleigh Cassada, and Britt Spurka.  Leddy and Kevin Ray each scored for Cambridge, and Smith added two more goals for another hat trick.  Cambridge finished it 14-6.
