Cambridge vs North Paulding - Friday, August 9th
The Cambridge Lady Bears kicked off their 2013 softball season in fine fashion Friday evening against the North Paulding Wolfpack in the Longhorn Invitation Tournament at the East Cobb Complex. A great example of team work was displayed as the entire team contributed to a 7- 2 victory. The Bears' pitching was led by Keara Napoli, who gets the win in an exciting opener. The Bears put together a flurry of hits running through the line up in the 4th inning to score 6 runs. Great hitting by Lauren Stewart, Lily Valeo, and Savannah ("Diggy") Dixon would strike a huge blow to the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack did mount a charge in the 5th inning, but the Lady Bears' strong defense shut down a bases loaded, 1-out situation to only allow 1 run. What a way to start the season.
Cambridge vs Woodward - Saturday, August 10th
The Lady Bears posted another victory on Saturday morning to take their season to 2 -0 against the Woodward War Eagles in the Longhorn Invitational Tournament at the East Cobb Softball Complex. The Lady Bears posted 7 runs in the 2nd inning by showing patience at the plate having numerous hits, walks, and excellent base running as they took advantage of the War Eagles' pitching. The Lady Bears infield defense led by Lily Valeo, Savannah (Diggy) Dixon, and Maria Lay shut down the War Eagles for an 8 -0 victory. Excellent pitching was exhibited by Mariah Kubik to end the game after 5 innings. The War Eagles' only threat came in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a triple to right field, but the Lady Bears' defense rose to the occasion to shut it down, including a sliding catch by Abby Vacarella in left field on a hard hit line drive. Next up for the Lady Bears, the Alpharetta Lady Raiders.
Cambridge vs Alpharetta - Saturday, August 10th
The Longhorn Invitation Tourney matched up rivals on Saturday afternoon when the Cambridge Lady Bears took on the Alpharetta Lady Raiders. The game was suspended due to lightning after only 2 batters in the Top of the 1st inning. Upon resuming the game, the Lady Bears took to work scoring 3 runs on a 2 out rally with a double by "Diggy" Dixon, and back to back singles by Keara Napoli, Maria Kubik, and Abigail Wilson. The Raiders fought back in the bottom of the 2nd inning, scoring 2 runs to make the score 3-2. The game would again be stopped due to lightning in the Top of the 4th inning, and that is how the game would end. The game against Sprayberry later that evening would also be canceled. The Cambridge Lady Bears will take a 3-0 record into their home opener on Tuesday night against North Cobb.
Congratulations to Coach Flemmer and his staff on a fantastic beginning to the 2013 season.
