Lady Bears Defeat Westminster 4-1
Complete Team Performance Secures Important Region Win
The Lady Bears delivered their best game of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Westminster 4-1.
Coach Bunting rolled out a 4-4-2 formation to start the game, and it proved very effective. The scoring almost got underway early as Senior Piper Preiss hit the crossbar. The crowd watched as the ball crossed the line by a foot, but the refs missed it, and the game continued on tied 0-0.
Preiss would eventually hit the crossbar four total times. It was insane.
The scoring actually got started midway through the first half by none other than the diabolical Reed Tingley. The freshman took a glorious pass from Sienna Solomonson and dashed up the field, converting a clever finish to put Cambridge up 1-0.
Tingley finished with a brace, bringing her goal tally to a mind-boggling 20 for the season.
Aspyn Stucke delivered an all-around great performance in midfield. The Senior scored once and assisted one of Tingley's goals.
Piper Preiss was a constant threat all evening. She converted a chance generated by Solomonson for a goal in the second half.
The defense was again outstanding. The aforementioned Solomonson went super nova, tallying a hat trick of assists along with multiple interceptions. The indestructible Regan Tingley, Peyton Tansey, and Katie Coutu read the game like a bunch of Virgil Van Dijks, always putting themselves in the right place. Senior Siobhan O'Riordan provided a great spark on defense in the second half as well, chasing down multiple Westminster players in the attacking third.
The lone Westminster goal came off a perfectly struck header off a corner kick. Otherwise, Anna Cate Servine came up big every time when challenged.
The win improves the Lady Bears to 8-3-0 for the season and 4-1-0 in region.
The pressure is now on first place Blessed Trinity, who still must face a very solid Westminster side twice. If the Lady Bears win out in region, and BT were to fall against Westminster in one of their two matches, the Lady Bears will win region for the fifth straight year.
The Lady Bears host regional opponent Kell on Friday at 6pm.
