The Lady Bears improved their record within their "sub-region" of Region 7AAAAA to 4-1 with two convincing wins over Sprayberry and Riverwood this week.
Bears - 9, Sprayberry - 0 Tuesday, March 24th
The Lady Bears opened play for the week with a Tuesday, March 24th game against Sprayberry.
The Lady Bears continued their domination of the middle tier of teams in Region 7AAAAA with a convincing 9-0 win over Sprayberry.
Cambridge opened the scoring early in the first half with a goal from Natalia Garcia (assisted by Charlotte Teeter), extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Carly Shayne (unassisted) and continued to pour it on when Natalia Garcia returned the favor and assisted on goals scored by Charlotte Teeter and Erika Haak to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Bears cruised to an eventual 9-0 win with second half goals scored by Allyson Curl, Natalia Tovar (assisted by Charlotte Teeter), Carly Dickman, Natalia Garcia and Charlotte Teeter (assisted by Natalia Garcia). Play in the midfield was nicely controlled by the combination of Amy Pollmann and Carly Shayne while the defensive effort was anchored by Nikki Hlebec, Amanda Feely, Kiely Gaertner and Leigh Hamblin. Posting the shutout in goal was a combination of Reagan Dunwoodie and Hannah Marrone.
Bears - 4, Riverwood - 0 Friday, March 27th
The Lady Bears closed the week with a Friday evening, March 27th game against Riverwood.
Once again, the Lady Bears' offense proved potent, while the defense posted another shutout on the evening as the Bears earned a 4-0 win.
Scoring was opened in the first half as Abigail Halbert notched a goal to give Cambridge a 1-0 lead in her first match coming off injury (welcome back). The Lady Bears dynamic scoring combination of Natalia Garcia and Charlotte Teeter re-surfaced shortly thereafter as the Bears took their lead from 1-0 to the eventual final score of 4-0 on goals by Carly Shayne (off corner kick by Natalia Garcia), Natalia Garcia (penalty kick) and Charlotte Teeter (unassisted).
Mary Koch put in a good effort at midfield along with Carly Shayne (as Amy Pollmann recovered from illness). The defense was once again anchored by Nikki Hlebec, Amanda Feely, Kiely Gaertner and Leigh Hamblin, while Reagan Dunwoodie went "end to end" in the goal.
The Lady Bears look to finish sub-region play strong this Wednesday (Senior Night) as they take on Forsyth Central (Wednesday, April 1 at 7.30pm at Cambridge High School).
They will also face Roswell on Friday, April 3rd (6.00pm at Roswell High School) in their final tune up before the regional playoffs begin during the week of April 14.
