The Lady Bears Varsity Soccer team opened its Region 7 schedule this week with two games – the first away against North Atlanta, Monday March 2nd and the second at home against North Springs on Friday, March 6th.
On Monday March 2nd, the Lady Bears dropped their Region 7 opener to North Atlanta by a score of 4-2. In a similar fashion to recent matches, the Lady Bears competed well against 7th ranked in state in 5A North Atlanta for the majority of the first half, creating several scoring chances but failing to capitalize. Well into the first half, North Atlanta opened the scoring with a goal on a ball played behind the defense that was played nicely "one touch" into the back of the net. North Atlanta followed that up with two more goals and took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Lady Bears opened the scoring in the second half with a goal by Natalia Garcia (unassisted) but conceded a fourth goal to North Atlanta shortly thereafter to give North Atlanta a 4-1 lead. The Lady Bears got back to within two on another goal by Natalia Garcia but could not manage another as the game went final at 4-2.
On Friday March 6th, the Lady Bears recovered to claim their first region win against North Springs by a score of 10-0. The Lady Bears scored early and often en route to the victory. Two Cambridge players secured hat tricks with Charlotte Teeter scoring four goals and Natalia Garcia tallying three. The remaining goals were scored by Meredith Haak (2) and Libby Peterson (1), in each case, representing their first goals of the season.
The Lady Bears will continue their Region 7 schedule this week with two home games against Woodland (Monday, March 9, 5.55pm) and Kell (Friday, March 13, 5.30pm).
