Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Opens Season with Win
- Bears dominate possession controlling the ball for 70% of the game
- Defense allows only five shots on goal for the game
- Charlotte Teeter finishes her first high school match with a hat trick
The Lady Bears Varsity Soccer team opened its season on Wednesday night, Feb. 4th with a scrimmage against Providence Christian Academy. While the Bears proved the stronger side dominating possession throughout the game (70%), the game remained close for much of the first and second halves before the Bears pulled away late in the second half on their way to an eventual 4-1 victory.
The Bears had a number of scoring chances and eventually capitalized midway through the first half when Amanda Feely knocked home the rebound on a free kick from Charlotte Teeter. That would remain the lone goal of the first half and the Bears entered halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Providence tied the game at one early in the second half when they converted an indirect free kick conceded only 10 yards from the Cambridge goal. While the Bears continued to dominate possession and generate quality scoring chances in the second half, they were unable to retake the lead until late in the second half when Charlotte Teeter got in behind the defense and finished with a shot that found the lower left corner of the net (assisted by Carlie Shayne).
The Bears put the finishing touches on the effort when they scored two more goals in the last three minutes of the game en route to a 4-1 victory. The first came when Charlotte Teeter found the net on a penalty kick (foul drawn by Natalia Garcia). The second came when Charlotte Teeter received a through ball from Natalia Tovar, beat the keeper and tucked the ball into the net completing the hat trick.
On the other side of the ball, the Bears defense put in a strong effort allowing only five shots on goal and conceding very few quality scoring chances.
The Bears next game is on Monday, February 9 when they travel to Etowah.
