Cambridge Girls Lacrosse Tryout Information-UPDATE

Cambridge Girls Lacrosse Tryout Information-UPDATE

We hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday and a great first few days of 2nd semester. As we near the start of the season and tryouts, here is some important information, including dates, times, and locations for tryouts. It is a long email but full of important information so please read it in its entirety!

1. ALL PAPERWORK MUST BE COMPLETED AND APPROVED IN DRAGONFLY
Make sure you have also listed lacrosse as one of your sports, otherwise, I have no way of accessing your paperwork. If you did not add lacrosse when you initially uploaded your paperwork, please reach out to me. Sometimes the system does not actually update the sport choice and we have to reach out to admin to fix. ALSO, double check that your paperwork, specifically your physical, has been approved. Dragonfly does not send any messages so the only way to know if all of your paperwork has been approved is to log into Dragonfly and double check. Even if you think everything is in order, please take the time to check. I have seen several physicals denied because they were on the wrong form. We don't want to get to tryouts and have to turn you away for incomplete paperwork so please reach out with any questions!!!

2. COVID SCREENING
At the beginning of every practice, game, and tryout date, we must ask the COVID screening questions and take everyone's temperature. Everyone is also required to wear a mask to and from every practice, game, and tryout. Masks should be worn correctly over the nose and mouth until the coaches let you know it is okay to remove. (You will not be required to play in a mask...don't worry!) .

This screening process is time consuming but is required. Keep in mind that your complete honesty is IMPERATIVE to keep everyone safe and ensure that we have a season! If your honesty to the questions results in you being sent home, it will not be held against you in regards to team placement, playing time, etc. It is absolutely necessary that you answer each question truthfully each day. The questions are below:

Are any of these things true NOW or have they been true in the LAST WEEK?

Fever?

Cough?

Sore Throat?

Shortness of Breath?

Recent loss of taste or smell?

Vomiting or Nausea?

Shaking with chills?

Been in close contact or cared for someone with COVID-19?

Traveled to a COVID-19 hot spot?

Been diagnosed with COVID-19?

Are you or anyone in your house waiting on a COVID-19 test result?

3. TRYOUTS
Tryouts begin next Monday 1/18. Like we mentioned earlier, we will still have tryouts even though it is a holiday and there is no school. But because it is a holiday, tryouts will be slightly earlier than usual. The list for dates, times, and locations for tryouts are listed below.

Monday              Jan-18   3:00-5:00 pm     CHS Stadium

Tuesday              Jan-19   4:30-6:30 pm     CHS Stadium

Wednesday       Jan-20   4:30-6:30 pm     CHS Stadium

Thursday            Jan-21   4:30-6:00 pm     Bell Memorial

Friday                 Jan-22   4:30-6:30 pm     CHS Stadium

4. SCHEDULE
The week following tryouts, we will begin practices. I will send out a weekly email (similar to this one) with important information for the upcoming week, including times and locations for practices. Due to the ever-changing nature of our scheduling and sharing facilities with boys lacrosse as well as boys and girls soccer, I only send out these practice specifics a week at a time. However, Saturday, January 30th will be a combined practice with both high school teams as well as our junior and senior select teams. This will be at the CHS stadium from 11-12:30 and will replace the practice on Friday January 29th.

Following tryouts, however, the game schedules will be released. In typical years, the game schedule does not change very much but in a year like this, there is no telling what will happen so anytime there is an update or change, it will be communicated and updated on the schedule with a notation of the date the change occurred. I actually just had a team cancel on us 2 days ago so let's keep our fingers crossed!!!

5. LOCKER ROOM
Typically, we don't have much use for the locker room but some had inquired about storing their gear in the cages in the locker room. If at all possible, please find a teacher that will allow you to keep your gear in their room. I know this is not ideal but since I am not at the school, we would have to rely on someone to open the cage for you. In addition, due to Covid, we are encouraged to avoid using the locker room if possible. Apparently, it turns into a hangout place and if someone who used the locker room tests positive, anyone and everyone who used it would have to quarantine as well. It is NOT an ideal situation, but it is our current reality.

6. GEAR/PLAYER PACKS
Just FYI. The Nike supply chain has been greatly affected by covid. I can't even tell you how many times I've had to change the player packs. We are still getting the same items such as joggers or a hoodie but the style and/or color may have changed.  I tried to stay with the same cut (mens or womens) in most cases but those might have changed as well. It's been such an ordeal so please be patient and understanding when the player packs come in and look significantly different than what any of us thought! :) The player packs won't be in for several weeks anyway but thought I'd give everyone a heads up.

We are so excited to get back out on the field playing the game we all love!!! Stay safe and healthy!!! See you soon!!!

PLAYERS, please complete the survey for sizing for the player packs.

Filling out this survey does not guarantee your receipt of the sizes you choose, nor does it guarantee your place on a team. We usually are able to get the sizes chosen but availability of gear is constantly changing.

SURVEY MUST BE COMPLETED BY 4:30PM THURSDAY, 12/17.

We apologize for the short notice but we have had to work to find different options due to items being unavailable or on back order. Please let me know if you have any questions! If you complete the survey more than once, your additional attempts will be deleted.

Though there were changes announced about the return to school from winter break, we are still scheduled to begin our season as planned. Tryouts will be January 18th-22nd. You should be at each day of tryouts, and each day of practice afterwards depending on what team you make.

Keep in mind that January 18th is MLK day so there is no school. There WILL still be tryouts that day, but we will try to have them in the afternoon or evening as best we are able. Details of specific times and locations will be forthcoming. Tuesday-Friday will begin at 4:30 as usual.

REMEMBER TO GET ALL OF YOUR PAPERWORK COMPLETED IN DRAGONFLY!!!  IF YOU SHOW UP TO TRYOUTS WITHOUT PAPERWORK COMPLETE, YOU WILL BE SENT AWAY.  Missing a day of tryouts due to incorrect or incomplete paperwork is not an acceptable reason. If you have questions about the paperwork, let me know.

See you at tryouts!!  GO BEARS!
