The Cambridge High School Girls and Boys Golf Teams both competed at the GHSA 7AAAAA State Golf Tournament in Jekyll Island, GA. on Monday May 20th.
The Girls Team who started slow made a valiant back nine charge but fell just 4 four strokes short to Lakeside-Evans (225) in winning the State Championship. The Girls posted a team score (229). Rachel Dai (73), Sabrina Long (73), Payton Schanen (83) and Caroline Russell (108) All played courageously for The Bears. Coaches Vajda , Bordas and Schlueter are all very proud of the Girls State Runner Up finish in Cambridge Girls first ever campaign. The Girls team made up of all Sophomores, has a very bright future moving forward. Congratulations Girls on a Great Inaugural season.
The Boys Team shot a combined team score of (312) to finish in 7th place in their inaugural season.
Even with some inspired play early in the round the boys could not manage to go low enough to compete with State champs Gainesville (289) in the 5A finals. Bears scoring was led by Sophomore Ryan Stachler (77), Junior Chris Meyer (78), Freshman Austin Redick (78) and Junior Thomas Pettigrew (79). Juniors Kaelen Golden (82), Evan Goldfuss (90) and Justin Beard (Alt) also competed.
The Boys too are a young team with no Seniors and should all be returning next season with some valued experience from their first season together.
Coach Vajda looks forward to watching the team gain additional tournament experiences over the summer and get them ready to compete again for a State title next year.
