It was a great night of basketball action at Cambridge High School on Thursday, Nov. 21st as the Bears' varsity squads swept visiting Clarkston before a high-energy crowd.
The Lady Bears started off the night and put on a defensive show, suffocating Clarkston 40-9. Cambridge held the Lady Angoras scoreless from the second quarter through the end of the game.
Coach Lesley Broadwell was pleased with the win but is more impressed with the work ethic of this young team. "We are happy with the outcome of course, but I am most happy that the girls are learning to communicate and work together on both ends of the court in these very early games. Success is a process, and we have a lot to achieve out in front of us and a great group of girls willing to work for it." Broadwell's Lady Bears are now 1-1.
Once the Lady Bears dismissed Clarkston, the boys varsity team roared onto the court and took down Clarkston 72-51 to improve to 2-0.
The Bears got off to a sluggish start in the first half but then started dropping three-pointers in the 3rd quarter to pull away for good. Coach Chip Flemmer had high praise for his team. "Emerson McClung had a premier performance scoring 23 points on 5 for 8 shooing, 4 for 6 beyond the arc and 9 for 10 at the free throw line. McClung also had 2 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Jordan Sloter added 18 points, while Hunter Knocke put in 10. Chancellor Anderson grabbed 9 rebounds along with his 8 points. Great job, Bears."
The varsity Bears will enjoy part of the Thanksgiving Break by traveling to White County for a holiday tournament. The girls kick things off at White County High School, Monday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m., followed by the boys' team at 8:30 p.m.
The Lady Bears will also play Tuesday, November 26 at 4:00 p.m., with tip off for the boys at 5:30 p.m.
Congratulations to a great start to the season for Bears' hoops!
