CAMBRIDGE BEARS FINISH IN TOP TEN AT STATE: THREE SCHOOL RECORDS SET
On May 11, 2026, the Cambridge track and field team headed to Athens, Georgia for the GHSA track and field state meet. This one day meet brought together the top sixteen individuals and relays in various events. The Cambridge Bears were primed and ready to perform...and perform they did.
The girls team finished ninth overall in the state and the boys finished seventh. Three school records were established. During the day's events, the majority of scoring for the boys came from seniors. All of the scoring for the girls came from non- seniors. All of the scoring for both the boys and the girls came from individual events. The one big takeaway for those that advanced to compete in the state meet is that it provides invaluable experience and often a renewed and dedicated desire to return next year.
The scorers for Cambridge at the state meet include:
Boys -
Grant Campbell - finished second in the high jump and long jump.
Grey Donner - finished seventh in the 1600 meters and fourth in the 3200 meters.
Andrew Bollenbacher - finished fifth in pole vault (personal record and the second best vault in school history).
Mohamed Bangura - finished eighth in triple jump (increasing his existing school record).
Girls -
Kennedy Williams - finished fourth in the 100 meters (a school record and the first female to go under 12 seconds in school history) and fifth in the 200 meters (a personal record and the second best time in school history). She was also cited for her performance by Georgia milesplit as one of the top breakthrough performances at the state meet.
Ella Alberici - finished fifth in the 1600 meters; eighth in the 3200 meters; and won the 800 meters (lowering her school record time and winning a state championship). She did an outstanding job (as she has done all year) on a very difficult trio of events.
Congratulations to each of these student athletes, their teammates and their parents. Some will be heading off to college. Some will continue competing in various events through the summer. Best of luck in all your future endeavors. Go Bears!
