Cambridge Swim Team Kicks off the Season with a Victory at Creekview Quad Meet; Divers Kicked off with the Early Bird Invite

November 10, 2025 — The Cambridge High School swim team delivered a solid performance at the CVHS Quad Meet held on Friday at Cherokee Aquatic Center, competing against Etowah, Creekview, and Hebron Christian Academy. With multiple event wins, personal bests, and strong relay finishes, the Bears showcased depth, determination, and team spirit for the new 2025 - 2026 season.

Event Recap

Cambridge's girls A 200-Medley Relay won the event with a time of 1:58.28, with a state qualifying time. The B relay placed 3rd, and the C relay finished 6th. On the boys' side, the B relay placed 5th and the A relay was unfortunately disqualified for an early take-off. 

In the boys' 200-freestyle, Aneesh Ayyagari placed 2nd with a new best time (2:10.99), followed by James Kates in 3rd with a new best time (2:11.28). For the girls, Molly Melchiors placed 2nd (2:05.08) with a state qualifying time, Leila Kader 4th with a new best time (2:12.74), Alexis Walkenhorst 5th with a new best time (2:16.99), Sydney Edison 6th (2:24.66), and Shloka Nagappan 10th (2:47.33).

In the 200-individual medley, Brighton Damm won the boys' event with a state qualifying time (2:11.85), with Nash Christiansen 3rd (2:34.53) and Ayaan Gadre 4th (2:44.56). In the girls' race, Alana Drevet placed 2nd with a new best time (2:29.37), Abby Salvia 3rd (2:32.42), Audrey Lampa 5th (2:46.32), and Casey Chingirian swam exhibition (2:27.47).

In the 50-freestyle, Bryson Mynatt won the boys' race (23.47), followed by Alex Onate (27.97), Henry Sommet (30.42), and Aaryan Dubey (34.82). For the girls, Caroline Garijo won (26.53), Emily Edison placed 11th (29.65), followed by Christine McVicker (31.97), Ella Fajen with a new best time (32.00), and Amy Watkins (35.25).

In the 100-butterfly, Cambridge swept the top two spots on the boys' side with Tayne Naude (53.31) and Oscar Ryzhkov with a new best time (55.49), and both with state qualifying times. Avi Saxena placed 5th with a new best time (1:14.74) and Campen Dawes 6th with a new best time (1:14.91). In the girls' race, Vivi Vasconcellos placed 2nd with a state qualifying time (1:03.27), Leila Kader 3rd with a state qualifying time (1:04.37), Abby Salvia 7th (1:12.13), and Shloka Nagappan 8th (1:25.60).

In the 100-freestyle, Brian Guy won the boys' race with a new best time (53.51), followed by Tate Robertson with a new best time (56.22), Pranav Kolathaya with a new best time (58.28), Shane Merrill with a new best time (1:00.94), and Henry Sommet (1:10.83). For the girls, Amber Naude won with a state qualifying time (57.20), followed by Alana Drevet (1:02.90), Alexis Walkenhorst (1:04.75), Mihika Ayyagari with a new best time (1:05.59), Audrey Lampa (1:06.00), Molly Melchiors (1:06.00), and Emily Edison (1:07.53).

In the 500-freestyle, Brighton Damm won the boys' race with a state qualifying time (5:15.07), followed by James Kates with a new best time (6:21.94) and Nash Christiansen (6:26.74). In the girls' race, Sydney Edison placed 2nd (6:22.97), and Casey Chingirian swam exhibition (5:35.80).

Cambridge's boys A 200-free relay (Ryzhkov, Damm, Mynatt, Naude) won with a state qualifying time of 1:34.15. The B relay (Guy, Robertson, Kates, Merrill) placed 3rd, and the C relay (Sommet, Onate, Dubey, Saxena) finished 6th. The girls A relay (Garijo, Lampa, Melchiors, Drevet) won with a state qualifying time of 1:52.25, the B relay (Kader, Walkenhorst, Ayyagari, Edison) placed 4th, and the C relay (Watkins, Nagappan, Fajen, McVicker) finished 7th.

In the 100-backstroke, Pranav Kolathaya placed 2nd with a new best time (1:06.18), Aneesh Ayyagari 3rd with a new best time (1:07.93), Bryson Mynatt 5th (1:08.91), Tate Robertson 6th (1:09.84), Campen Dawes 7th (1:15.26), and Aaryan Dubey 11th (1:35.89). For the girls, Amber Naude won with a state qualifying time (1:00.09), followed by Molly Melchiors (1:13.96), Emily Edison (1:16.11), Ella Fajen (1:24.47), and Christine McVicker (1:29.97).

In the 100-breaststroke, Oscar Ryzhkov placed 3rd with a new best time (1:07.63), followed by Brian Guy (1:13.34), Shane Merrill with a new best time (1:20.61), Avi Saxena with a new best time (1:21.94), Alex Onate (1:22.01), and Ayaan Gadre (1:22.43). For the girls, Vivi Vasconcellos won (1:19.40), followed by Caroline Garijo (1:19.84), Mihika Ayyagari (1:24.68), and Amy Watkins (1:44.28).

In the final event of the night, the Cambridge boys A 400-freestyle relay (Ryzhkov, Naude, Damm, Mynatt) won with a state qualifying time of 3:32.87. The B relay (Robertson, Kates, Christiansen, Merrill) placed 3rd, and the C relay (Kolathaya, Ayyagari, Dawes, Sommet) finished 5th. The girls A relay (Salvia, Vasconcellos, Chingirian (E), Naude) won with a state qualifying time of 3:59.92, and the B relay (Melchiors, Walkenhorst, Ayyagari, Edison) placed 6th.

Relay Highlights

Cambridge dominated the relay events, winning both the boys and girls 200 and 400 freestyle relays, as well as the girls 200 medley relay. These victories were anchored by standout swims from Amber Naude, Tayne Naude, Oscar Ryzhkov, Brighton Damm, and Caroline Garijo, among others.

Returner Individual Highlights

  • Amber Naude led the girls with wins in the 100-freestyle and 100-backstroke, and contributed to two winning relays.
  • Tayne Naude and Oscar Ryzhkov went 1-2 in the 100-butterfly, with Ryzhkov also placing 3rd in the 100 breaststroke.
  • Alana Drevet, Molly Melchiors, and Leila Kader each contributed top-three finishes in individual events and relays.
  • Bryson Mynatt claimed victory in the 50-freestyle and contributed to both winning boys relays.
  • Caroline Garijo won the 50-freestyle and placed 2nd in the 100-breaststroke.

New Swimmer Highlights

Cambridge's newest class of swimmers made big contributions to the night. 

  • Vivi Vasconcellos earned wins in the 100-breaststroke and a strong 2nd in the 100-butterfly.
  • Brighton Damm swept the 200-IM and 500-freestyle. 
  • Casey Chingirian stood out with her exhibition swims in 200 IM (2:27.47) and 500 Free (5:35.80)
  • Amy Watkins, Aaryan Dubey, Henry Sommet and Ayaan Gadre delivered solid swims and best times, showing promise for the season ahead. Their energy and competitiveness added depth to the team and point-scoring strength across the board.
  • Abby Salvia had some very critical relay contributions as well as scoring points in all of her individual events. 
  • Nash Christiansen competed in a series of very challenging distance individual events and scored important points for the boys' team.
  • Alex Onate, even as a new athlete, showed tremendous leadership and in a supportive role to his teammates while also scoring the team points.
