Cambridge Tops Forsyth Central and North Forsyth in Season Opener

On October 26th, the Bears hosted the season opening Time Trials meet. The Bears walked away with 19 state qualifying swims and one new school record. The meet sets the tone for the season ahead, and the Bears are certainly looking strong already.

In the first race of the night, the A-medley relay (John Murphy, Gavin Schoeling, Tayne Naude, Oscar Ryzhkov) won the event by five-seconds to finish with a state qualifying time of 1:42.96. The B-relay (James Kates, Tate Robertson, Brian Guy, Bryson Mynatt) took fourth and the C-relay (Pranav Kolathaya, Avi Saxena, Campen Dawes, Caden Whalen) took seventh.  

The girls followed suit by winning their event. The A-relay (Caroline Gaines, Alana Drevet, Jennifer Griner, Amber Naude) finished with a state qualifying time of 1:56.18. The B-relay (Ana-Clare Grann, Molly Melchiors, Audrey Lampa, Leila Kader) took fourth.  

In the boys 200-freestyle, John Murphy won the event with a time of 2:05.13, followed by Bryson Mynatt in second, Pranav Kolathaya in third, and Raj Malik in fifth. 

In the girls event, Jennifer Griner took care of business and won the event with a state qualifying time of 1:58.21, followed by state qualifier Molly Melchiors in second, and Audrey Lampa in fifth.  

In the 200-individual medley, Gavin Schoeling took first with a state qualifying time of 2:06.09, followed by Oscar Ryzhkov who also qualified for state in second place, Aneesh Ayyagari in fifth and James Kates in sixth. 

In the girls 200-individual medley, Caroline Gaines took second with a state qualifying time of 2:12.57. 

In the boys 50-freestyle, junior Tayne Naude took second with a state qualifying time of 21.97, followed by Brian Guy in sixth place, Caden Whalen in 15th place, and Avi Saxena in 17th place. 

In the girls event, freshman Amber Naude won the event with a state qualifying time and new school record of 24.02, followed by Caroline Gaijo in third, Alana Drevet in seventh, Veronika Kolesnikov in 10th, and Sela Guy in 20th.

In the boys 100-butterfly, Gavin Schoeling won the event ith a time of 1:04.60, followed by Tate Robertson in second. 

For the girls event, Leila Kader took second, Audrey Lampa took fourth, and Alexis Walkenhorst took fifth. 

In the boys 100-freestyle, Brian Guy took fourth, Shane Merrill took sixth, James Kates took seventh, Campen Dawes took 14th, and Caden Whalen took 15th. 

In the girls 100-freestyle, Amber Naude took first with a state qualifying time of 52.47, followed by Leila Kader in fourth, Ana-Clare Grann in sixth, Mihika Ayyagari in eighth, and Christine McVicker in 12th. 

The boys swept the 500-freestyle, with Oscar Ryzhkov taking first with a state qualifying time of 5:07.71, John Murphy taking second, and Raj Malik taking third. 

In the girls event, Caroline Gaines took first with a state qualifying time of 5:27.19, followed by state qualifier Molly Melchiors in second. 

In the boys 200-freestyle relay, the A-relay (Brian Guy, James Kates, Aneesh Ayyagari, Pranav Kolathaya) took second, followed by the B-relay (Caden Whalen, Shane Merrill, Campen Dawes, Avi Saxena) in sixth. 

For the girls, the B-relay (Ana-Clare Grann, Alexis Walkenhorst, Christine McVicker, Mihika Ayyagari) won the event, followed by the A-relay (Audrey Lampa, Alana Drevet, Leila Kader, Caroline Gaijo) in second. 

In the boys 100-backstroke, Tayne Naude took first with a state qualifying time of 52.67, followed by Bryson Mynatt in fourth, Pranav Kolathaya in fifth, and Aneesh Ayyagari in sixth.

For the girls, Jennifer Griner adds another state qualifying swim to the mix with a 1:02.20 win for the event, followed by Alexis Walkenhorst in third, Ana-Clare Grann in fifth, and Sela Guy in eighth. 

In the boys 100-breaststroke, Tate Robertson took fifth, Shane Merrill took seventh, Campen Dawes took eighth, and Avi Saxena took 12th. 

In the girls 100-breaststroke, Alana Drevet won the event, followed by Caroline Gaijo in third, Mihika Ayyagari in fourth, and Veronika Kolesnikov in fifth. 

In the final boys event, the 400-freestyle A-relay (Gavin Schoeling, Tayne Naude, Oscar Ryzhkov, John Murphy) took first with a state qualifying time of 3:27.86. Schoeling also clocked a state qualifying time in his lead-off leg of 50.51. The B-relay (Bryson Mynatt, Aneesh Ayyagari, Shane Merrill, Tate Robertson) took second. 

The girls followed suit with the A-relay (Jennifer Griner, Molly Melchiors, Caroline Gaines, Amber Naude) winning the event with a state qualifying time of 3:48.18. Griner also clocked a state qualifying time of 55.41 with her lead-off leg to the relay. The B-relay (Alexis Walkenhorst, Mihika Ayyagari, Veronika Kolesnikov, Caroline Gaijo) took third.

The swim captains (Gaines, Griner, Schoeling, Grann) also honored Brian Guy and Molly Melchiors for the "chefs of the meet." 

The Bears will swim in their senior relays next week and then move on to compete against Creekview on November 9th. Divers are up next week at Marist for the Early Bird Invitational!
