In game one of the Sweet 16 State playoffs, Wednesday, October 19th, the Bears faced the Grovetown Warriors.
In the 1st inning Pitcher Keara Napoli had a quick three strikeouts and Bears offense got right to business. Junior Jensen Cheshire hits a single and Senior Mariah Kubik lays down a sacrifice bunt and moves Cheshire. Junior Taylor Greene hits a double and Cheshire scores. Senior Keara Napoli hits a double and Greene scores. Senior Courtney Campbell and Lindsey Smith each hitting singles and Napoli scores. Bears take the lead 3-0.
Bottom of the 2nd Cheshire with another single and Napoli with a Home Run! Campbell up next and hits a Home Run!! Freshman Chooch Carroll hits a single and courtesy runner Gabby Givers comes in. Givers steals second then scores on a double hit by Senior Abigail Wilson. Bears up 7-0! Nothing doing for the Warriors on offense.
Bottom of the 4th Napoli and Campbell with singles and Napoli scores on a wild pitch, Campbell advances on a passed ball and Carroll with a single, Junior Lindsey Smith with a single and Senior Becca Cleypool with a double Bears score another 5 runs to win the game by a run rule 12-0.
In game two the Bears stay hot on offense. In the top of the 1st Cheshire and Kubik hitting singles and a double for Greene. Courtesy runner Givers comes in for Carroll after Carroll reaches base on a fielder's choice. Givers steals second and Wilson hits a single and the Bears take the lead 4-0.
The Bears will head to Columbus Thursday 10/27 to play Creekview at 8pm in the State Playoffs!
