Lady Bears Varsity Softball Defeats Region Opponents Chattahoochee and Pope

Cambridge vs. Chattahoochee    2-1 Bears win (Tuesday, August 16th)

The Bears took on the Chattahoochee Cougars at home on Tuesday, 8/16.   Starting for the Bears Sophomore, Genevieve Dumas had a very quick 3 up 3 down in the first inning to get the game rolling.  Bears offense couldn't get anything going in the bottom of 1. With a couple of hits in the 2nd for the Cougars solid defense by catcher, Chooch Carroll and first baseman, Courtney Campbell and a final strike out for Dumas, the inning ends. Bottom of 2 Chooch gets a double to get the Bears on and  junior Lindsey Smith hits a single to get Carroll in, Bears lead it 1-0. Bottom of 4 Carroll with a home run to bring the Bears lead to 2-0!  Cougars answer back in the top of the 6th with a single and a double and an error bringing in 1 run, score at 2-1.  Solid pitching by Dumas and the close in the 7th by Keara Napoli, the Bears take this one 2-1. 
 

Cambridge at Pope High School  4-2 Bears win (Thursday, August 18th)

On Thursday 8/19 the Bears traveled to Marietta to face Pope High School in their first meeting since 2014.  Now a region game for these two, the Bears get on the board in the 2nd inning with a Home Run for Keara Napoli.  Bears back at it in the 4th inning with a walk by Chooch Carroll, first time Varsity game for freshman, Gabby Givers, comes in as a courtesy runner and uses her speed to steal second!  Keara Napoli hitting a triple sending Gabby home bringing the Bears to a 3-0 lead. Pope answers back in the bottom of the 4th and 5th with a few singles to score but awesome defensive plays by Jensen Cheshire, Taylor Greene, and Courtney Campbell the Bears hold them to 2 runs. Score is 3-2 going into the top of 6th and the Bears Keara Napoli hits a double and stealing third and Courtney Campbell with a sacrifice fly out just shy of the fence sends Napoli home and the Bears hang onto the 4-2 win. 
 

Next up, the Bears host North Atlanta Tuesday, August 23rd (5:55pm), and host Buford Wednesday, August 24th (7:00pm).
