Cambridge Varsity Softball Defeats North Springs and North Atlanta, Loses to Woodstock

Cambridge-13 North Atlanta-0  Thursday, Sept. 24 

In the top of the 1st inning, pitcher Keara Napoli retires North Atlanta with a quick three up, three down.  

Bottom of the 1st inning the Bears got on the board with hits from Abigail Wilson, Mariah Kubik, Keara Napoli, Taylor Greene, and a double from Courtney Campbell giving the Bears a 3-0 lead.  

In the top of the 2nd inning, Pitcher Napoli struck out three for another quick inning.

Bottom of the 2nd inning the Bears got going with hits by Heather Kipniss (double) Jensen Cheshire, Mariah Kubik, Lily Valeo, and Taylor Greene as the Bears took the lead to 8-0.  

In the 3rd inning Pitcher Napoli recorded another three strikeouts while the Bears scored another 5 runs with hits from Heather Kipniss, Jensen Cheshire, Courtney Campbell, Abigail Wilson and Mariah Kubik with doubles.  

Pitcher Genevieve Dumas came in and closed out the game with a quick three outs including a strikeout.  Bears win the game by a run rule.  

 

Cambridge-2  Woodstock-5  Wednesday, Sept. 23

After a 12 game winning streak, the Bears had their first loss against Woodstock Wednesday night, Sept. 23rd at North Park playing in the Milton Classic Tournament. 

Abigial Wilson started the Bears off with a single and after two passed balls advanced home for a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 1st a runner gets on first with a single but is thrown out on the steal by Taylor Greene to Lily Valeo.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning with 2 outs, and the Bears still leading 1-0, Woodstock was aggressive at the plate and with three hits loaded the bases, scoring one run. Another run scored on a walk.  With the bases still loaded, Woodstock takes the lead 5-1 on another hit and an error, bringing in 2 more runs. 

The remainder of the game the Bears held the Wolverines with solid defensive plays made by Jensen Cheshire, Courtney Campbell, Mariah Kubik, Heather Kipniss, Taylor Greene and Pitcher Genevieve Dumas.  The Bears fought to the end, when in the 7th inning Courtney Campbell, Keara Napoli and Beccal Claypool singled and Heather Kipniss had an RBI with a fielder's choice to bring in Courtney Campbell to score.

Final score 5-2, Woodstock.

 

Cambridge-19  North Springs-0  Monday, Sept. 21 

The Bears took the lead 2-0 in the first inning with a walk, errors, and hits from Keara Napoli and Taylor Greene. Pitcher Keara Napoli struck out 3 in the 1st inning.

The Bears bats got going again and scored another 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Hits from Abigail WilsonLily ValeoMariah Kubik, Keara Napoli, Becca Cleypool and doubles by Courtney Campbell and Taylor Greene led the rally. 

North Springs couldn't get anything going at the plate and the Bears scored another 5 runs in the 3rd and 7 runs in the 4th to finish the game. Hits came from Abigail Wilson with a double, singles from Lily Valeo, Keara Napoli, Jensen CheshireHeather Kipniss, Haley Brown and doubles from Lindsey Smith, Taylor Greene, and Becca Cleypool

Pitcher Napoli had five strikeouts in two innings and Genieveve Dumas had 2 strikeouts and finished the game for the Bears.

 

The Bears will travel to Pope High School Friday Sept. 25th and back home to take on Buford on Monday, Sept. 28th.  The Bears wrap up their regular season play and have remained undefeated in the Region and are sitting in first place.
