Cambridge Varsity Softball Continues to Beat Opponents in State Tournament

The Cambridge Varsity Softball team is continuing its dominance and has advanced to the next round of the state tournament.

The Lady Bears defeated Flowery Branch in a best of 3 series on Thursday, October 16th. Below are the highlights:

Cambridge vs. Flowery Branch Game #1

Last Thursday October 16, the Bears needed to win 2 out of 3 to advance to the sweet 16 of the state tournament. The Bears hosted the Flowery Branch Falcons. Both teams had three quick outs in the 1st inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Lady Bears got on the board with a walk for Keara Napoli, followed by hits from Courtney Campbell and Savannah Dixon.

Heading to the top of the 3rd, the Falcons were able to tie the game, 1-1. The Bears were able to get the bats going with hits from Courtney Campbell, Abigail Wilson, Savannah Dixon, Gabriela Bravo, Mariah Kubik and Lauren Stewart. The Lady Bears went up, 4-1 in the top of the 5th.

Bears' pitcher, Keara Napoli, was able to hold off the Falcons, keeping them at only 2 hits and no runs. Cambridge geared up its offense and scored runs in the 5th and 6th innings with hits from Courtney Campbell, Keara Napoli, Savannah Dixon, Gabriela Bravo, and Mariah Kubik. Keara Napoli was able to hit her first home run of the season for the Bears!

Final score was 8-1, Bears!

Cambridge vs. Flowery Branch Game #2

The Bears and the Falcons went right back to work, with the Lady Bears nice and warmed up and ready to finish the series. In this game, the Bears started strong at the plate with hits from Lauren Stewart, Taylor Greene, and Lily Valeo. Keara Napoli had quite the day as she her second home run this season. The Bears were up 4-0 at the top of the 2nd.

The Falcons couldn't get anything going on offense as the Bears had solid pitching and defense. Cambridge continued to put runs on the scoreboard with hits from Lauren Stewart, Lily Valeo, Heather Kipniss, Taylor Greene, Becca Cleypool, Jensen Cheshire and Taylor Hauber. The Lady Bears had another shutout, as the game ended by a run rule, 12-0, in the 5th inning.

The Cambridge Bears now head into the sweet 16 and host Alexander High School from Douglasville.

Come out this Wednesday, October 22nd, at Cambridge High School and pull for your Lady Bears, as they continue their outstanding season.

First pitch is 5:00 p.m., followed by Game #2 at 7:00 p.m.
