The Cambridge Softball team was on the road again Wednesday, September 10, and this game proved to be a tremendous victory for the Lady Bears as they defeated the Pope Greyhounds for the first time in 3 years.
It was another great pitching dual as Keara Napoli only allowed two hits and was in total sync with catcher, Taylor Greene. Coach Chip Flemmer says this was one of those benchmark games that gives you a good barometer for where your team stands. "We have so much respect for Pope and for Kelly Barnhill (their pitcher). This was a game that we knew every run was going to count. Whichever team could play small ball and avoid errors was probably going to come out on top."
The Lady Bears' defense pulled off some impressive plays by Lauren Stewart Lily Valeo, Heather Kipniss, Bela Bravo, Abigail Wilson, Savannah Dixon and Courtney Campbell. Every player clearly wanted the win!
Coach Flemmer says the team has had some great wins in the first three years of Cambridge, but this was truly something special. "To us, this is right there on top of our program. The girls were excited, and it took everything we had to squeak that one out. It was a great test for what we will see in region playoffs and the state tournament if we are fortunate enough to get there."
The Lady Bears Fastpitch team will try to continue its road game rampage, traveling to Riverwood on Tuesday, September 16th, and to Roswell on September 17th, before playing at home Thursday, September 18th against Sprayberry.
