Cambridge at Northview - Sept. 26th
The Lady Bears rebounded impressively after their loss to Pope on 9/25, by taking down the Northview Titans, 9-1 on Thursday evening Sept. 26th at Northview.
The Bears jumped out quickly to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning after having bases loaded. However, the Titans responded quickly with a triple down the right field line, and then scored the run on an infield error. Maria Lay nailed a deep shot to center in the 3rd to score Lauren Stewart to take the lead. Then, in the 4th, Gabriela Bravo takes her own long ball to deep left, and after Courtney Campbell's bunt, Bella scores. Maria Lay continued her streak with another deep shot to the fence scoring 2 mores runs giving the Bears a 5-1 lead after 5 innings.
Strong pitching would hold the Titans scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Bears would add 4 more runs in the 7th led by a 2-run RBI from Courtney Campbell and that would do it for this match up. Final Score .. Cambridge 9, Northview 1.
Cambridge at Osborne - Oct. 1st
It was all Bears on Tuesday night Oct. 1st as they traveled to Osborne to take on the Lady Cardinals.
After a huge 10 run opening inning by the Lady Bears, the Cardinals just could not manage to put anything together in this contest. It was an all out team effort on the part of the Lady Bears as everyone was able to contribute to this victory.
The Bears pounded out 13 hits and committed no errors in this outing. The Cardinals did put up 1 run in the 2nd, but the Bears trumped this with 6 more runs in the 3rd to finish the game with a 17-1 victory. Next up is the Senior Night home game rescheduled for Wednesday, 10/3 against the Walton Raiders.
Cambridge vs, Walton - Oct. 3rd
It was Senior Night and Breast Cancer Awareness night on Wednesday Oct. 3rd at the Bear Den.
The Lady Bears wore "pink" jerseys to signify their support of Breast Cancer Awareness, and the Walton Lady Raiders also showed their support by wearing pink socks, and pink under eye tinting. Two Cambridge's softball moms were saluted as breast cancer survivors (Sally Fedrigon and Andrea Lay), and Walton Head Coach, Brandi Sparks, also paid tribute to her mom as a breast cancer survivor. Not only did she pay tribute, but the Lady Raiders presented the Lady Bears with over $700, which the team raised for Breast Cancer Awareness, as a donation to the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. What an awesome show of team unity and support for this worthy cause. MANY THANKS TO THE WALTON LADY RAIDERS!
It was also Senior night in the Bear Den, and Bears saluted their only Senior teammate, which is also the first graduating senior of the entire Cambridge Softball Program, Maria Lay, the Bear's 2nd baseman, along with her parents were presented with flowers, a photo collage, and posters from each player. What another great celebration for the Cambridge Program.
Now there was also a softball game going on during the evening, and Lady Bears were definitely on their game. In a show of both strong hitting and tremendous fielding, the Bears defeated the Raiders 10-2 to close out the regular season. Lily Valeo went 3 for 3 on the night, and Ally Konishi, 2 for 2, to lead the sticks for the Bears. The Bears scored in every inning except the first and held the lead for the entire game. Mariah Kubik gets the win from the hill, and the Bears score 10 runs off of 10 hits for the night.
The Bears travel next to the Regional Tournament as the #4 seed.
Go BEARS!
