Lady Bears Softball Come up Short against Forsyth Central, Pope

Cambridge vs. Forsyth Central

As region play winds down in the season, every game is key for the Cambridge Lady Bears as they seek their first crown.  On Monday evening Sept. 23rd, the Lady Bears went to Forsyth Central for a very tough match up with the Lady Bulldogs, and after a strong battle, came up short losing to the Bulldogs 3-2.

It was a defensive battle through the first couple of innings, but in the top of the 3rd, Lauren Stewart's shot to right center field scored Abigail Wilson.  Lauren was thrown out at the plate by a great throw from right field attempting to score after a deep shot to left field by Lily Valeo.  The Lady Dogs got on the board in the bottom of the 5th after a couple of unforced errors by the Lady Bears to take a 2-1 lead. Lily Valeo would again take a deep shot to the left field fence in the 6th for a triple, and would score on a sacrifice fly by Keara Napoli to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

Using the International Tie-Break System, the Lady Dogs would hold the Bears in the Top of the 8th, and then score the winning run in the bottom of 8th on another unforced error.

Cambridge vs. Pope

In another regional game on Tuesday evening Sept. 24th, the Lady Bears suffered their 2nd consecutive loss to the Pope Lady Greyhounds, which now drops them to 3rd place in their region.

The Lady Greyhounds, led by their All Star pitcher, held the Lady Bears to only 1 run off 2 hits in a 4-1 win.  The Bears jump out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning and held the Greyhounds scoreless until the 4th inning.  Diggy Dixon and Lauren Stewart produced the Bears only hits, which included a deep fly to left field by Lauren Stewart for a double.

The Lady Greyhounds scored all of their runs in the 4th inning on a series of hits to the Bears' outfield,  and a couple of unforced errors by the Bears. The loss now puts our Lady Bears in a tough spot as far as the regional rankings.  We're not out, but it's going to be a tough battle ahead.

The Lady Bears next take on Walton at home on Wednesday, Sept. 25th..first pitch is 5:55pm.
