GAME 1 - Cambridge vs Hiram - Friday, 9/13
The Lady Bears opened the North Cobb Classic Tournament with a big win over the Hiram Hornets by a score of 7-1. It was all defense thru 3 innings by both teams, and the Bears managed to battle their way out of a bases loaded situation in both the 1st and 3rd innings to hold the Hornets scoreless. The Bears managed to put up 1 run in the bottom of the 4th to take the lead with help from Maria Lay and Keara Napoli. The Hornets tied it up in the Top of the 5th, but Lauren Stewart broke things open in the bottom of he 5th by taking a 2-1 pitch deep over the left field fence for her 2nd Homerun of the season. The Hornets were not going down quietly and showed it in the 6th by fielding a hot line drive of Napoli's at 3rd, and scoring the double play with a throw to 1st taking out Lily Valeo. The Lady Bears would seal the victory in the 6th when Maria Lay took a deep shot to right center for a triple and score 2 RBIs. The win took the Bears to 9-2 on the season.
GAME 2 - Cambridge vs Perry - Friday, 9/13
The second game of the North Cobb Classic for the Cambridge Bears Friday evening turned out to be a true nail biter. Facing the Perry Panthers, the Lady Bears managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory in a very exciting match up. Great defense by both teams kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Lily Valeo fielded a line drive in the 3rd and on a throw to 1st, was able to complete the double play. Then, Taylor Hauber made a sliding catch in left field on a short fly ball to end the 2nd inning. The Bears put both of their runs up in the 3rd, led by base hits from Taylor Hauber, Lauren Stewart, Maria Lay, and Llly Valeo. The Panthers would score their only run of the game also in the 3rd with a deep shot to the fence for a double, followed by another double to score the run. The remainder of the game would be all defense by both squads, but the Lady Bears would prevail and take their 2-0 tourney record into the Saturday games.
GAME 3 - Cambridge vs Dunwoody, Saturday, 9/14
The Cambridge Bears continued their excellent play on Saturday morning at the North Cobb Classic by defeating the Dunwoody Wildcats by a score of 8-1. The Lady Bears were led by Lauren Stewart with a lead off double to start the game, and went 2 for 3 on the day scoring 2 runs. Abigail Wilson and Mariah Kubik added hits in the 2nd, ultimately leading to additional runs and the Bears took a 6-0 lead into the 3rd inning. The Wildcats put together a few hits in the top of the 3rd and scored their only run of the game. In the bottom half of the 3rd, Taylor Hauber would hit and score Emily Fedrigon, and they would be all the scoring for either team in the game. Mariah Kubik gets the win allowing only 3 hits and 1 run in the game.
GAME 4 - Cambridge vs Dunwoody, Saturday, 9/14
Based on the rotation of the North Cobb Classic tournament on Saturday, the Dunwoody Wildcats would get another shot at the Lady Bears in the afternoon game. Unfortunately for them, this rematch would be all Bears as Cambridge defeated Dunwoody by a score of 18-0. All of the Lady Bears had the bats working in this game as 12 different players managed to get hits in this game. Keara Napoli and Mariah Kubik shared the pitching duties in this game and with the Bears defense, shut down the Wildcats not even allowing a hit. The Bears would wait for their championship match up team for the night game.
GAME 5 - Cambridge vs North Cobb, Saturday, 9/14 - CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The Cambridge Lady Bears would take their North Cobb Classic undefeated record into the Championship Game Saturday night against the North Cobb Warriors, but they would see their magic come to an end as the Warriors defeated our Lady Bears 10-0. It was scoreless after 1 inning, but errors by the Bears in the 2nd allowed the Warriors to put up 2 runs. The Warriors would add a run in both the 3rd and 5th innings to take a 4-0 lead into the final inning. Then in the 7th, the Warriors broke it open with the small ball game, and were able to add 6 runs thus eliminating any hopes that the Bears would come back in this one. The bats simply went cold for our Bears and they were only able to generate 2 hits in the entire game. The loss takes the Bear's record to 12-3 on the season.
Congratulations to the Lady Bears on a very respectable showing in the North Cobb Classic Tournament.
Next up, the Lady Bears take on Sprayberry at the Bear Den on Tuesday, September 17, at 5:30.
