Lady Bears Softball Defeat Walton 14-5

Lady Bears Softball Defeat Walton 14-5

The Lady Bears took care of business on Wednesday night August 21st n fine fashion by taking down the Walton Lady Raiders in only 5 innings.

The Bears took advantage of an off night of pitching by the Raiders and scored in 4 of the 5 innings on their way to a 14 - 5 victory.  A streak of singles led by Diggy Dixon generated 3 runs in the opening inning and the Bears would never trail in this match up. The Bears added additional runs in the 2nd when Maria Lay hit a line drive up the middle, and Lily Valeo struck a shot deep into left field for a double to score 2 runs completing a 5-run inning.

The Raiders also scored in 4 of the 5 innings including a shot down the right field line just off the glove of a sliding Abigail Wilson to score 1 run.  They put together more offense in the third, but was shut down by great defense from the Bears including a terrific play by Amanda Chernick at 2nd base to thwart any hopes of a Raider comeback.

The Bears utilized 3 pitchers in the game to seal the deal. The game ended on a scary collision at the plate when Emily Fedrigon stood in front of a charging Raider to make the tag for the final out of the game.

Next up for the Varsity, Riverwood will be at Cambridge on Tuesday August 27th. Come out and support the Lady Bears!
