The Cambridge Lady Bears Fastpitch softball team closes out their season with two very close games.
The varsity players lost each game by one run in the Region Tournament played at the Al Bishop Softball Complex in Marietta. The first game was against Kell whom Cambridge had lost to twice during the regular season but by much larger margins. Defense and pitching were both key as the game came down to a hit in the gap that allowed the single run to score in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Bears had base runners to third several times but just could not score. The final score was 1-0 as Kell beat the Bears.
The second game in the Region Tournament was once again with a tough Northview team that had beaten Cambridge soundly earlier in the year. This game felt like a heavy weight fight. The teams took turns scoring throughout the game, but Northview pulled ahead in their last at bat and found a way to beat the Lady Bears, 7-6.
The Lady Bears finished the season with 7 wins out of 16 games. That is very impressive considering the high number of freshmen and sophomores and bodes well for the softball team next year. The support among the coaches, parents and community helped the young players pull together and gel as a team.
Look for more information on the Lady Bears as they will be a force to watch as they hit the field in the 2013 season.
