The Cambridge Bears Boys tennis team secured a key region win 4-1 over the Raiders of Riverwood on a hot Tuesday afternoon, March 15th.
On the singles front, Drew Fruehauf (1S) had a first set point on his racquet but his very talented opponent put together consecutive good points to take the first set tiebreak. He lost a well-played second set 3-6. Josh Wills (2S) played a strong first set to gain the win. His feisty opponent fought back in the second set before Josh came back late with a break and hold to win the match. Lastly, Ryan Edmiston (3S) sealed the deal in two sets with a strong serves and putting away points at the net on several occasions.
The doubles teams continued their unbeaten streak with wins at both lines. Zac Hirschler & Joey Ladaga (1S) won (0,3) behind Joeys' powerful backhand and smart volleys. Zac continued hit strong groundies on the forehand side. Kez Fitzgerald and Jason Weiner also won again (0,0). Jason played a consistent all court game with clean volley winners while Kez returned serve well, especially aggressive on second serves.
The win moves the Bears to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in Region play. The Bears take a trip to Chattanooga this weekend, March 18-19 for the Deco Turf National Tournament. The following week will be busy with 4 matches in 5 days.
