The Lady Bears registered their second win and shutout in a row as we ended the season on a high with a battling 3-0 win against the Norcross Blue Devils on Wednesday, March 29th.
One of the most memorable moves of the game unfolded around the 15th minute mark when a defense splitting pass from Molly Booker (24) found Megan Clark (33). Clark's shot bounced of the bar and Booker almost tapped in the rebound! In the next move another chance for the Lady Bears fell to Erica Quinn (28) but the Blue Devils goalkeeper was able to smother her shot.
A corner four minutes later from Navin almost resulted in an "own goal" as a Blue Devils defender deflected the ball towards goal but into the grateful arms of her goalkeeper!
The Blue Devils had a good spell of possession with some incisive passing on the left wing in the 27th minute but the Lady Bears midfield and defense combined well to quell any real threat.
One final chance fell to Grace Dass (29) in the 30th minute as she ran through on goal but the defender ushered her wide. Dass pulled a dangerous looking ball back from the goal line but the goalkeeper got to it and held on.
The Lady Bears started the second half immediately looking for a second goal and forced a corner in the 39th minute. An almighty scramble ensued with the Blue Devils eventually clearing the ball from their penalty area. The Blue Devils then went to the other end and almost scored the equalizing goal but their attempt went just wide of target!
In the 41st minute, Megan Clark (33) shot straight at the goalkeeper as she collected a pass from Caitlin Powers (37) Ashley Spina (0) then pulled of a great save in the 43rd minute keeping out a firm shot that was on target from the left. At the other end Caitlin Powers (37) almost got on the end of a searching pass but for the sliding Blue Devils goalkeeper who got to the ball a split second faster.
The Blue Devils were letting their frustration show as they battled for an equalizing goal. A Blue Devils goal was correctly disallowed for a blatant foul on Ashley Spina (0) in the 49th minute. The Lady Bears then won a couple of free kicks in midfield for holding fouls as they continued to foil the Blue Devils.
As the game entered the last 10 minutes, the second goal was scored in the 63rd minute by Amanda Navin (23). A long range shot that was too strong for the Blue Devils goalkeeper! 2-0 Lady Bears.
Two minutes later Navin scored again to make it 3-0. This time running through a static Blue Devils defense and finding the bottom right of the goal.
We end the season with a 7-2-2 record. A special thanks to all the girls, parent volunteers and coaches for a memorable season.
