Cambridge Bears softball had a busy schedule playing 5 games in 8 days, winning 3 Region games and losing 2.
This week concludes the regular season with 2 away games Tuesday, 9/26 at Alpharetta and Thursday, 9/28 at Johns Creek.
Cambridge Falls to Pope after Sixth Inning Score Thursday 9/14
The Bears game against Pope was a heartbreaker for the Bears, as they lost the lead late in a 4-3 defeat, their first Region loss. The Bears captured the lead with 2 outs in the first inning when Lindsey Smith drove in a run when she tripled. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Pope tied things up with a stolen base. The game was tied at one with Pope batting in the bottom of the sixth when they hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run and a singles to right field to drive in 2 more. Cambridge almost pulls it out in the top of the 7th scoring 2 runs with a single from Luci Allen and Jensen Cheshire, a double from Gabby Givers, and a sacrifice fly from Taylor Greene. Genevieve Dumas took the loss. She threw six innings, allowing four runs, six hits, and striking out three. Lindsey Smith, Taylor Greene, and Gabby Givers each drove in one run.
Dunwoody Captures Lead Early to Defeat Cambridge Friday 9/15
The Bears fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 7-1 loss to Dunwoody. In the 1st inning, Dunwoody scored on a single, fielder's choice and stolen base. Dunwoody scored on a run-scoring triple in the second inning. Genevieve Dumas took the loss. She pitched one-third of an inning, allowing three runs, four hits, and walking zero. Anna Allen came in for relief, giving up 4 runs. Gabby Givers went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits along with Audrey Smith's Home Run and Ariel Birnbaum's double.
Allen Throws Shutout as Cambridge Defeats North Atlanta. Monday 9/18.
Anna Allen didn't allow a single run, and only allowd 1 hit as the Bears defeated North Atlanta 13-0 on Monday, 9/18. The Bears scored on a triple by Taylor Greene and a groundout by Haley Brown in the first inning as the Bears took an early lead. Cambridge scored 3 runs in the third inning with a triple from Haley Brown, doubles from Daisy Valeo and Ariel Birnbaum and a single from Liz Seymour. The Bears scored six runs in the fourth inning, led by a triple by Haley Brown, a single by Ariel Birnbaum, a home run by Audrey Smith, and a triple by Jensen Cheshire. Anna Allen earned the win. She tossed four innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, striking out four, and walking zero. The Bears collected 16 hits in the game. Liz Seymour, Ariel Birnbaum, Jensen Cheshire (2 triples), Gabby Givers, Haley Brown (2 triples), and Audrey Smith each collected multiple hits. Seymour went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits.
Cambridge Jumps Out to Early Lead in Victory Over Chattahoochee Monday 9/20 for Pink Out
Cambridge defeated Chattahoochee 10-2 thanks to a strong start. The Bears scored 4 runs on a single by Cailey Hart and 3 errors in the first inning. Genevieve Dumas earned the win. She went five innings, allowing two runs, six hits, and striking out one. The Bears collected 11 hits. Gabby Givers, Jensen Cheshire, and Lindsey Smith each collected multiple hits, including a home run by Taylor Greene. Audrey Smith, Lindsey Smith, Taylor Greene, and Cailey Hart each drove in two runs to lead the team.
The Lady Bears created the Cambridge Cares Pink Out Project for their Pink Out Game this year. Players decorated the field & made signs – and played for In Memoriam of or for someone battling Breast Cancer, collected pledges for the Hit-A-Thon, sold raffle tickets & Pink Cambridge Cares t-shirts. The Cambridge Softball family raised more than $1000.00 for The Pink Agenda (thepinkagenda.org) - a non-profit 501c3 that is dedicated to research, care and awareness of Breast Cancer. Players will collect donations until 9/30/17.
Cambridge Jumps Out to Early Lead in Victory Over Northview Thursday 9/21. It was a great win for the Bears, as it was Senior Night where Cambridge's 6 seniors, Anna Allen, Jensen Cheshire, Taylor Greene, Cailey Hart, Lindsey Smith and Daisy Valeo were honored for their last regular season home game. The Bears grabbed an early lead on its way to a 6-4 victory when in the first inning when Lindsey Smith singled with one out. Northview scored three runs in the sixth inning, driven by a single and a groundout. But the Bears still managed to pull out the victory. Genevieve Dumas earned the win. She threw seven innings, surrendering four runs, seven hits, and striking out one. The Bears collected ten hits as Anna Allen, Jensen Cheshire, and Lindsey Smith each collected multiple hits including doubles from Lindsey Smith, Anna Allen, and Gabby Givers.
