Cambridge Bears Varsity softball continues to lead their Region with a record of 9-0 in Region Games.
The Lady Bears Varsity softball team blew out Johns Creek 8-1 on Tuesday Sept. 5th. The Bears scored three runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was driven by 2 Johns Creek errors and several key hits. Genevieve Dumas earned the win for Bears. She threw six innings, giving up one run, five hits, striking out two, and walking one.
The Bears had nine hits in the game. Gabby Givers, Cailey Hart, and Luci Allen each collected multiple hits. Luci Allen led the team with two runs batted in, going 2-for-3 on the day. The defense committed no errors, and came up with several great plays including a diving catch by centerfielder Lindsey Smith who doubled off the runner at second base.
The Bears returned home Wednesday, Sept. 6th and defeated Alpharetta 5-3 thanks to a walk-off home run by Lindsey Smith in the bottom of the 8th inning!
Cambridge took the lead in the 3rd inning with a 2-run home run from Audrey Smith. Alpharetta scored three runs in the fifth inning taking the lead, but the Bears came back with another run knotting the game up at three.
A great diving catch by left fielder Gabby Givers in the 7th inning took the Bears into extra innings. With the game tied at 3-3 with the Bears batting in the bottom of the eighth, Lindsey Smith helped clinch the win with a big home run, driving in two runs.
Genevieve Dumas earned the win. She pitched eight innings, surrendering three runs, 11 hits, striking out one, and walking one. The offense collected 12 hits. Taylor Greene, Lindsey Smith, Audrey Smith, and Liz Seymour, each collected multiple hits. Seymour went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the team.
On Thursday, Sept. 7th, the Lady Bears won their 3rd game of the week at home defeating Centennial 8-0 in four and a half innings thanks in part to Ariel Birnbaum, who drove in four runners!
The Bears grabbed an early lead, scoring on a single by Ariel Birnbaum and a double by Lindsey Smith in the first inning. The Bears then scored four runs in the second inning from singles by Jensen Cheshire, Daisy Valeo, Gabby Givers, and Birnbaum.
Anna Allen threw a no-hitter, earning the win for the Bears! She threw five innings, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, and striking out three.
The Bears had ten hits in the game with Birnbaum, Cheshire and Givers each collecting multiple hits.
The Lady Bears hit the road next week traveling to Dunwoody (Monday, Sept. 11) and Pope (Thursday, Sept. 14) with a home game Tuesday, Sept. 12 against Chattahoochee.
