Lady Bears Varsity Softball Starts 2017 Season Winning First 5 Region Games

Cambridge High School Varsity Softball has started the year off strong by winning their first 5 Region Games. 

Senior Lindsey Smith has been lighting up the batter's box this season and leads the team in batting with 2 homeruns, 7 doubles, 20 hits and 19 RBIs. Senior Cailey Hart and Sophomore Gabby Givers is also having a great season with over a dozen hits. With a strong offense and defense the Bears beat the Centennial Knights 14-0 on August 8th as Genevieve Dumas and Anna Allen, combined to shutout the Knights.  The Bears grabbed an early lead scoring 5 runs in the 1st inning and added 9 more runs the rest of the way on 16 hits that included doubles by Haley Brown, Daisy Valeo, Lindsey Smith, and Gabby Givers. Cailey Hart and Gabby Givers went 3 for 3 and Luci Allen also delivered 2 hits in the Bears first win. Genevieve Dumas earned the win giving up 1 hit and striking out two. Anna Allen closed out the win giving up two hits and striking out 3 batters. 

The Bears won their first Region home game on August 10th by jumping out to an early lead in their 5-1 victory over Dunwoody High School. Cambridge had nine hits including multiple hits by Liz Seymour and Gabby Givers. Seymour's 3 hits combined with doubles by Lindsey Smith and Taylor Greene sealed the victory. Genevieve Dumas earned the win for Cambridge giving up 1 run, scattering 4 hits over 4 innings and striking out 3. Anna Allen closed out the win by holding the Hornets scoreless the rest of the way giving up two hits and striking out one.

On August 15th Cambridge traveled to Chattahoochee where freshman Lauren Cooper shutout the Cougars giving up only 1 hit. Lindsey Smith led the Bears with 2 hits and Taylor Greene with an Home Run. Haley Brown, Anna Allen, Cailey Hart all delivered hits on the way to defeating the Cougars 12-1.

On August 17th the Pope High School Greyhounds travelled to the Cambridge Bear den and were defeated 12-3! Cailey Hart led the Cambridge charge with 4 of the Bears 8 hits. Hart delivered 2 doubles, 2 singles, and 5 RBIs. Lindsey Smith went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBIs.  Genevieve Dumas earned the win for the Bears, allowing 3 runs and scattering 9 hits by the Greyhounds.   

On August 22nd the Bears won their 5th Region Game beating the North Atlanta Warriors 13-0. In the 22 hit Cambridge barrage, Gabby Givers, Cailey Hart, Jensen Cheshire, and Liz Seymour each delivered multiple hits including home runs by Givers and Hart. Anna Allen earned the victory by going the distance in shutting out the Warriors giving up only one hit and striking out two.
