Varsity Girls Softball Opens up 2016 Season with 4 Shutout Wins

The Varsity Lady Bears are back with a vengeance!  After being one game away from heading to the State Finals last year, the returning Bears are on the hunt for a State Championship again.  The Varsity team is back strong with the loss of only three seniors from last year. The 2016-2017 team has six returning seniors, five returning juniors, one sophomore, and one freshman. This team has had the same endless camaraderie since the beginning of it's program and with a solid JV team also with 3 wins this season this program continues to get better every year! 

Cambridge Vs. Centennial  8-0 (Tuesday, August 9th)
In their first home game against the Centennial Knights, the Bears get off to a great start with pitcher Keara Napoli on the mound with a total of 14 strikeouts. The Bears with 9 hits beginning in the 2nd inning with singles from Courtney Campbell, Chooch Carroll, and Becca Cleypool the Bears get on the board.  In the 3rd inning Taylor Greene hits her first home run of the season, followed by another home run by Courtney Campbell, a single by Keara Napoli and Lindsey Smith, a double for Becca Cleypool. The Bears take a huge lead 7-0 finishing by a run rule with another run in the bottom of the 4th with a double from Chooch Carroll as the game ends at 8-0, Bears!

Cambridge Vs. Collins Hill Eagles 7-0 (Wednesday, August 10th)

In the Bears second game of the season and first away game traveling to Collins Hill High School, Taylor Greene doesn't waste any time with hitting her 2nd home run on the season to get the Bears on the board in the first inning along with a single by Chooch Carroll who eventually will score on a passed ball...Bears lead 2-0.  Collins Hill has a quick three up three down in the bottom of one and the Bears score another 4 runs with a couple of walks, singles by Jensen Cheshire, Mariah Kubik, and a double by Chooch Carroll as the Bears lead 6-0. Another stellar performance by pitcher Keara Napoli with 10 strikeouts and only 3 hits backed up by the solid defense, and the Bears take the win 7-0. 

Cambridge Vs. Dunwoody Wildcats 8–0 (Thursday, August 11th)

Game Three of the season, the Bears went on on the road to take on the Dunwoody Wildcats.  In the top of the first the Bears get bats going with single hits from Mariah Kubik, Taylor Greene, and Chooch Carroll taking the lead 1-0.  Top of three Abigail Wilson hits a double, with the unstoppable Taylor Greene who hits her 3rd Homer on the season followed by another double by Chooch Carroll the Bears get a couple of singles by Courtney Campbell, Keara Napoli, Becca Cleypool, Jensen Cheshire and Abigail Wilson scoring 5 runs this inning as the Bears go up 6-0.  With solid defense, plays made by first base Courtney Campbell, outfielders Abigail Wilson and Becca Cleypool the Wildcats were unable to score.  In the 4th inning Chooch Carroll hits a double and Keara Napoli with her first home run on the season and the Bears score another 2 runs.  The fourth inning also saw the season debut of underclassman pitcher Genevieve Dumas.  Dumas followed up the dominant 3 inning performance of Napoli with two innings of scoreless ball to complete the combined shutout.

Cambridge Vs. Milton Eagles 10-0 (Monday, August 15th)

A little in-town rivalry was renewed when Milton visited Cambridge with a great crowd cheering both teams on. With a quick three K's in the first and a home run for Chooch Carroll in the second, the Bears get on the board up 1-0. Another 3 k's for Napoli and in the bottom of the 3rd. Mariah Kubik starts things off with a single followed by another couple of singles by Taylor Greene, Chooch Carroll, Keara Napoli, Heather Kipniss, and a couple of walks the Bears take the lead 9-0.  Bottom of 4 Taylor Greene with her 4th homer on the season to get the Bears  a 10-0 lead.  Napoli threw a perfect game in 4 innings with Genevieve Dumas closing the game with a quick three up three down.
