Cambridge Varsity Boys Soccer Opens Region Play with 4-1 Win over Dunwoody

Tuesday February 27, 2018, Dunwoody High School – The Bears traveled to North DeKalb Stadium to open Region 7 play against the 1-5 Dunwoody Wildcats Tuesday night. 

From the opening whistle the Bears controlled the ball and tempo of the match. Cambridge scored just 3 minutes in when Ethan Rose found John Crawley over the top and Crawley slotted the ball passed the goalie to put Cambridge up 1-0.  Cambridge had more than 70% time of possession for the balance of the 1st half with numerous opportunity on goal but could not find the back of the net.  Dunwoody was held without a shot on goal during the 1st half of play and the score at half time was 1-0 Cambridge. 

The 2nd half opened with Cambridge attacking and Dunwoody countering and at the 7 minute mark Dunwoody earned a foul 23 yards out for a free kick and found the back of the net.  The Bears appeared energized and re-focused after allowing the Dunwoody goal and pinned them in their half most of the balance of the  match, at times Dunwoody had 7 and 8 men in the box playing defense.  Cambridge second goal and game winner was scored at the 15 minute mark by Jabar Obeid off an assist from Jarvin Ramirez and at the 25 minute mark the same two paired up for Cambridge's third goal of the night which put the Bears up 3-1. 

The Wildcats began to chase the game which allowed for more open play and many goal scoring opportunities for the Bears.  The final goal was scored in the 35th minute by Jarvin Ramirez off an assist from Jabar Obeid.  Cambridge possessed the ball more than 70% of the match and had 18 shots on goal compared to Dunwoody's 4.  With the result Cambridge earns its first Region 7 win of the year and improves to 6-0 on the season. 

Next up for the Bears is a home match on Friday March 2nd hosting a tough Region 7 opponent in Centennial which won its first region match 2-1 over North Atlanta on Tuesday and is 4-0-3 for the year.  Centennial won 6-4 last year at home, finished second in the region and was #5 in the final AAAAAA rankings last year.  It should prove to be an exciting match, come out and support your Bears on Friday!
