Former Cambridge High School golfer Ryan Stachler qualified for the 116th U.S. Open on Monday, June 6th, advancing out of Sectional Qualifying and into the second major championship of the 2016 golf season. Stachler finished second at Ansley Golf Club's Settindown Creek Course to secure one of three spots from the 39-player field. He will test his skills June 16-19 at Oakmont Country Club in Plum, Pa.
Stachler was on fire Monday, shooting a 36-hole score of 136 (-8). His second round was especially strong, as he made it around the course in 65 (-7), with nine birdies.
A rising junior at the University of South Carolina, Stachler played in four events for the Gamecocks in 2015-16. He helped South Carolina win the Camden Collegiate Invitational, finishing T-22nd, his best individual performance of the year.
